Earth Myths

In Babylonian astronomy, Libra was known as the scales cherished by the sun god Shamash, the patron of truth and justice.

In ancient Greece during the Hellenistic time, Libra was called the scorpion’s claws. In ancient Egypt it was seen as a boat: The Barque of Osiris was a celestial vessel that carried the god Osiris across the sky, symbolizing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

The Romans solidified the constellation as the scales associated with Astraea, the goddess of justice.

Fun fact, Virgo has been linked to Astraea in her Greek myths. The two constellations are often represented together in modern Earth depictions. In Taraverden they both reside in Kikode.
