Earth Myths
In ancient Egypt, Aries was associated with the god Amun-Ra who was depicted as a man with a ram’s head representing creativity and fertility. In Hellenistic astrology, Aries was associated with the golden ram that rescued Phrixus and Helle. They were sent to their certain death by their jealous stepmother, Ino. While the Ram saved Phrixus, Helle fell off his back during the rescue and drowned in a river.
In Chinese astronomy, the three brightest stars from Aries formed a constellation called “Lou” representing the “bond,” “lasso,” and “sickle” used in the ritual to sacrifice cattle. In Hebrew astronomy, Aries was named “Taleh” and generally symbolizes the “Lamb of the World.” Fun fact: Aries is home to three different meteor showers: The Daytime Arietids, the Delta Arietids and the Autumn Arietids.
